BMW officially acquires the John Cooper Works brand
BMW has been working on this deal for some time now, and with the level of involvement in design, engineering and testing steadily increasing, the inevitable has become reality. In a deal set to become effective in January 2007, BMW has acquired the rights to the John Cooper Works name to further strengthen the MINI brand.
In what could easily become MINI's equivalent of the BMW "M' brand, JCW now has the engineering and development resources of BWM at their disposal, ensuring the John Cooper Works models a pivotal role in the overall MINI brand strategy well into the future.

Makes a lot of sense considering the production plan based around JCW spec R56's to being built online rather than a dealer retrofit or factory off line build.

now if only the JCW version had a resonable price. Really a $30k mini is not cool. Could almost get a evo for that price, or a mazdaspeed 3 for $6k less.

I agree on the Cooper S JCW. Love the car, but not the price.

I kind of think its sad . if u go to the cooper works page they closed the cooper cars workshop . they should have stayed a seperate entity in and of themselves. John Cooper would turn in his grave if he knew he sold out to BMW.
